Taiwanese singer David Tao and girlfriend Penny Jiang tied the knot on Sunday at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Taipei and spent NT$6million (approximately S$250,000) on the affair. After the ceremony, the couple partied with their university friends till four in the morning, before retiring to their room for the night.
Penny had previously woke up at five in the morning on the big day to doll herself up and the newlyweds were drained by the end of the day.
45-year-old David shared the three simple agendas he had on the day after his marriage: To sleep and recharge, sort out their wedding gifts and to have a good meal with close family and friends.
The singer will then proceed with rehearsals for his concert in Beijing next Saturday and the lovebirds will have to live separately for the timebeing. As David’s calendar is packed up to next year, the singer said honeymoon and baby-making plans will have to wait till then.
In addition, the star-studded wedding saw big names such as Jay Chou and Lee Hom, as well as businessmen associated with Penny’s family, who owns Dongshun Hardware store. Guests were generous in giving congratulatory ‘angbaos’ and currency-counting machines were even spotted.
David’s manager explained, “The counter collecting ‘angbaos’ were too near the food section and it was crowded. It is not nice to count the amount of money received in front of the guests. So the hotel suggested and provided us with these machines.”
They have reportedly collected gifts worth a total of nearly NT$6million (approximately S$24,600).
