Former Miss Hong Kong Michelle Reis recently suffered from a relapse of tumours in the stomach and intestines after her first encounter with eight benign tumours two years ago. They were discovered after an endoscopy at the hospital, and were immediately removed through surgery.
Although she is certified by the doctor to be well, the risks of similar incidents happening in future will be higher for patients who have encountered it before.
At the recent Champion Awards by The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Michelle turned up an hour late and the rare latecomer apologised profusely for it. The mother of one explained that it was due to the giddiness when the general anesthesia wore off after her surgery.
She was especially thankful for having her husband Julian Hui by her side throughout the operation, who was also “the first person” she saw after the ordeal.
“We (My husband and I) will not undergo body checkups at the same time because we want to see each other immediately after a surgery [if need be],” the 44-year-old adds.
Besides Julian, her son Jayden Max Hui showed his concern in an unconventional way by “giving disapproving looks to my makeup and outfit in an attempt to keep me at home [to recuperate]”. Michelle also took the chance to encourage everyone to go for health check-ups annually to avoid having regrets of not taking care of oneself.
