Increasingly forthcoming about his relationship with actress-model Hannah Quinlivan, Taiwanese multi-hyphenate Jay Chou admitted during an event yesterday that he would keep his word and get married before he turns 36 next January.
The Mandopop superstar spoke at a music lecture, which is part of Golden Melody Global Music Festival that is being held to promote the upcoming 25th Golden Melody Awards. When asked on his marriage plans, Jay openly declared his wish to tie the knot soon.
“I hope to have a kid in the near future,” said Jay.
However, the singer-songwriter added that the “timing to have children is not right yet”, and that the couple have not started planning for their wedding.
“I am not a good man because I have so many scandals. But I am a filial person who always keeps his promise,” he quipped.
During the event, veteran host Matilda Tao pointed out that Jay no longer sports a face mask when he goes out these days. In return, the 35-year-old explained that since he gets recognised by people even when he wears a mask, he might as well not put on one.
Jay also revealed that his new album will be released in September. In addition, a sentence from the lyrics of his title track “What Kind of Man is this” – “Why don’t you go after the ex whom you still love” – has been speculated to be referring to his ex-lover Jolin Tsai.
Responding to the claims, Jay insisted that the song, which is purely based on his imagination, was written a long time ago. “It is not directed at Jolin or Patty Hou,” he emphasised.
