IT was the kitchen battle of fierce rivals Helena and Vikki versus Chloe and Kelly tonight, but a cruel twist of fate saw nice guys Annie and Jason head to sudden death.
The three bottom teams battled it out in a fight for their MKR lives, given just one hour to produce their best dish using food from Pete and Manu’s kitchens.
After failing to deliver in the blind-tasting round, the fear of sudden death saw all six contestants lose their cool at some point during the challenge, but poor Annie with her adorable plaited pigtails really fell apart at the checked seams.
The married cheesemakers landed Manu’s crate of produce, but the noticeable absence of their go-to dairy ingredient had viewers worried they might be out of their depth this time around.
The pair chose to cook crispy skinned duck with blood orange sauce, glazed carrots and cauliflower puree, but Annie, unable to recall the ingredients for her winning sauce, started to panic.
“I’m forgetting how to cook, I don’t know what’s going on with me,” she told her husband.
Even Jason couldn’t summon a smile while he battled to perfect the skin on the duck and keep Annie’s head in the game at the same time.

“I’ve got one duck in the oven coming along quite well. The other duck, she’s not doing too good,” he said, pointing at his frazzled wife.
When it came to crunch time, Pete said the duck was “a little bit overcooked”, while Manu commented that there wasn’t enough of Annie’s sauce on the plate.
“You need to take a little more care of everything on the plate guys,” the Frenchman said.
A deflated Annie admitted it just wasn’t their night, saying “I think today, we just didn’t have the right mindset.”
Meanwhile, it’s a miracle that the twins and the meanies managed to plate up anything decent, given they spent so much cooking time firing foul looks back and forth across the kitchen and feigning pleasantries.
“We would love to beat Helena and Vikki today. They smashed us in the instant restaurant round and they’re really cocky,” Kelly admitted.
Chloe called a spade a spade early on, saying “It’s not secret that there’s no love lost between us and the twins.”
But Vikki was just as determined: “We definitely don’t want Chloe and Kelly to be safe and us to have to cook the next round, that would definitely eat me,” she said prior to the intense cook-off.
Tuesday night on Seven’s cooking show sees Annie and Jason in the sudden death round against Carly and Tresne. Viewers took to Twitter to express their disappointment that one of the two likable teams would inevitably face the MKR chopping block.
